And it doesn't manifes...It doesn't go away. And it doesn't manifest in just racism. I grew up a white girl in the same surroundings--lily white, and all about what you have and don't have. I may have looked like them, but I was still a pariah. They would check the tags of my clothes to see if I wore real brand names or knock-offs. (I always wore knock-offs.) It was also a problem that I was nice to other people they were mean to.
